Opinion No responsibility for Georgia students and no freedom for teachers

In a guest article, long-time Georgia teacher Jim Arnold talks about his growing concern about the absence of accountability of all school employees, except for teachers.

Arnold was the former director at Pelham City Schools. Arnold has his blog on education. Through his 48 years in the public sector, Arnold also served as an instructor in classrooms, as well as the assistant principal and principal, and he’s now an adjunct instructor in the education department at Columbus State University. Arnold is a resident of Midland, Georgia.

Opinion No responsibility for Georgia students and no freedom for teachers

By Jim Arnold

You’ve got a good memory of real education, Do you? Not too long ago, the primary goal of education was to equip students with the knowledge necessary to develop into functioning, contributing members of society in a sequential, orderly and age-appropriate manner.

Help students develop critical thinking skills and provide them with fundamental reasoning abilities.

A plethora of educational programs in the last 25 years has substituted critical thinking for the principal purpose with social constructs and standardized test preparation that has no place in classrooms or schools. The goal, individual and collective, of each of these programs, was to take a small part at each time, to take away parents, teachers and students, thereby diverting money from public education for personal enrichment and private education and ensuring a population with little education who could election the direction they were told to vote.

Let’s begin with standardized tests. Teachers who are genuinely knowledgeable know that each child develops at different speeds and reacts to specific instructional techniques and not the same way as other instructional methods. Teachers are therefore mandated to utilize differentiated instructional methods. Simultaneously. Hourly. Daily. Weekly. Monthly.

Because children are unique.

Using standardized test scores and results are educational blunders designed and implemented to keep parents, students, and teachers off public schools. Why? Because vast sums of money in education are on the line, it is thought that funds could be better utilized than teaching commoners. Like you. Like me. Like our children and our grandchildren.

In time, the belief of “all children can learn” and “all children can succeed” transformed into “all children will succeed at high levels.” It isn’t a matter of how much we’d like each child to be successful or for every kid to become “college material.” It simply isn’t the case.

“Every child will succeed at high levels” ignores the variances in abilities and motivation, a factor often overlooked as an essential factor in learning for students. Students should be taught to develop their skills through the exposure they received in their home when they were infants and preschoolers to reading books, numbers, the alphabet and even numbers. Teachers can’t stop parents’ neglect in these areas before children start school. In the same way, legislating for equity, like excellence, is a hazardous exercise in egoism and futility.

In our current time, where teachers can’t make students accountable for their inability to complete homework and classwork or their infractions. Parents started a wave of protests that it wasn’t the child’s fault that their child didn’t complete their work or behaved in a disruptive manner during class, but rather the teacher’s fault. The homework was not necessary. Induction to class was boring. The focus was on assessing student performance to blaming the teacher’s performance.

Teachers

Teachers, who had to defend themselves from the growing pressure to blame parents for their negligence, realized it was much simpler, at least in the short run for them, to accept the situation with each other and not confront what they considered an impossible situation. It was hard to prioritize personal responsibility for students when parents backed their child’s reckless behaviour with aggressive behaviour. Teachers knew they couldn’t confront parents without support from the administration and began by removing zeros from the work that was not completed and giving the grade 50% for the lowest grade.

Teachers knew that removing the possibility of failure could be worse for students than failing. However, the administrative decisions aren’t always successfully combated by teachers. The absence of giving students the chance to learn from mistakes led to an uncontrollable feeling of entitlement. The truth is that teachers understand this isn’t how life operates but how students learn. Students are not given grades they did not get, and not allowing zeros, setbacks or failures is ineffective and counterintuitive. They create an unnecessary string of promotions that fate will ensure will end badly. What do the graduation rates of schools indicate when students aren’t permitted to fail? I’m not sure.

What did teachers do? Earliest moment? Remove themselves from an unsustainable situation. Since the 1980s, teachers have left, changed jobs, or learned to do something different and then left classes without their teachers and systems crying out for replacements who were not available because college students witnessed in close-up detail the hardships their teachers endured.

Many who entered the field of education to prove that they could impact the world were not allowed to teach because of the introduction of standardized lesson plans, buses, meal duty professional training opportunities (so administrators can tick the box that allows for professional development) as well as documentation of instructional strategies and hundreds and hundreds of administrative duties, and as if this weren’t enough, the administration micromanagement of people who don’t think you’re able to do your job without constantly checking to ensure that you’re doing it.

“Teach the standards and not the books” was the motto, and standardized lesson plans, which are required by many districts, eliminated any possibility that teachers could be innovative in their classes and utilize their abilities to reach students. We are again faced with the specific situation wherever “we will require differentiation in teaching by ensuring everyone is teaching the same way for all students.” Horsefeathers.

The current situation is at an extreme point. Many students, teachers, and parents have given up to endure in dire situations. Perhaps it’s time to look at those who are attempting and are aspiring to join classes for the same or more than students who are only there for the sake of being.

If we don’t address it quickly, this public system of education that helped millions for many years will be gone, and the gap won’t be filled by private, religious, or charter schools. The public education system has been a crucial factor in the development and success of our American dream and our nation’s continued existence. Without it, I’m convinced that many of us will be plagued by ignorance and ignorance and the rise of criminality, lawlessness, and the depressed state of the majority of the population.

For all prospective students, this is the most excellent choice element, and many other colleges often don’t offer any online programs or a severely limited number. So the fact that this Program is done nearly entirely online could be the single most significant element that unites Capella.

Cost

In a subject where it’s not unreasonable for students, you may anticipate covering up to $150,000 for their Psy.D., Capella’s plan is refreshingly affordable. Depending on how long it requires to perform, the typical scholar won’t need to pay a whole lot more than $50,000 to finish their Psy.D. and remain for licensing exams as they function to become qualified psychologists. Especially for students interested in working with populace organizations or in concentration parts that aren’t well-paying, being able to justify the trouble of making a Psy.D. is probably prime of mind, and few colleges are as economical as Capella’s Psy.D. Biggest Cons

To be specific, Capella’s Psy.D. programs are not for everybody; therefore, what facets may make a scholar think hard about seeking a Capella Psy.D.?

Few level alternatives

With only two level alternatives, school and medical, prospective Psy.D. students interested in studying forensic, industrial-organizational, or other emerging fields of psychology may be better served at different institutions with a broader portfolio of degrees and concentration areas.

Insufficient APA accreditation

The American Mental Association has approved less than 100 Psy.D. programs in the United States, and Capella’s is not one of them. While that doesn’t necessarily mean that making a Capella Psy.D. won’t be a challenge, students must understand that, with regards to the kinds of employers within their area, attending a non-APA-accredited school might make them a less desirable work candidate.

The Bottom Line

However, you are unsure if the Capella Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology or School Psychology is often correct for you. Have a look at that chart to master more.
